NaNoWriMo is in the Books!

Sorry for no update last week. Between writing and Thanksgiving and everything else that was going on, there just wasn’t time. But, I’m please to announce that, as of last week, I officially won NaNoWriMo! My total word count is 50,673. I’ll have one more day of writing yet this month before my official tally is recorded, but I’m beyond excited for how far I’ve come with it, and for where it’s going. You’re going…

Halfway Through November: A NaNoWriMo Update

Wow, November has been all kinds of busy! But, my novel won’t write itself, so I’m continuing to find time where I can. Today is November 16, 2016, which means we’re halfway done with November and NaNoWriMo. Here’s where I am write (haha) now:   Total word count: 31,835 Average words per day: 2,122 Pages (single spaced): 69 Chapters: 22   I have only been able to write two or three days a week, so I’m actually…

50K Words in 30 Days: Can I Have More Time, Please?

NaNoWriMo 2016 is upon us! This will be my 5th year participating and my 4th consecutive NaNoWriMo as well. I love it. Mostly because it gives me great motivation to pump out a novel. My writing friends are also doing it, so it also provides a little bit of friendly competition. Each time I’ve done NaNoWriMo, I have successfully written 50,000 words before November ended. I’m not saying that because it’s easy. On the contrary,…

Countdown to NaNoWriMo: Outlining

It’s October 10, and in a few short weeks, November will come as a thief in the night. I’m never ready when thieves come. My first few times doing NaNoWriMo, I would have a story idea and, without much thought as to what it would entail, I would embark on my writing journey. No outline, just my initial thoughts and then anything that sounded good as I came to it. I’m not like that anymore. I’ve…

What’s Next for Dwarf Mountain

I was hoping to give an update on my novel progress last week, but life got away from me, as it is wont to do. But, now I’m here, updating! And the first news is…I finished book two last Monday! I reached my 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo in November (which is all that matters), but I finally finished the last sentence on December 1. I had considered combining book two with the first one because I didn’t…

This Post Brought to You By the Number 53,078

It took me all of 19 days, but I reached the 50,000 word count for NaNoWriMo! While it may look like it came easy since I’m done with 10 days left to spare, let me tell you, it was far from easy. The writing was, of course, enjoyable. I love figuring out who my characters are, what bugs them, and how they react to the story. I love connecting bits and pieces together into something much…

Living on a Prayer

I’m halfway there! I have surpassed the 25,000 word mark in my NaNo novel. To be honest, I didn’t even know if I would make it this far! But I did, thanks to my lovely wife who demands me sit down and write each night. What would I do without her? My novel is going as planned. It’s also going in places in which I never expected. Before November, I constructed a short outline of where…

A NaNoWriMo Pep Talk

Welp, we’re five days into November and NaNoWriMo is going strong! I have broken the 10,000 word mark and am well on my way to winning. This can only last for so long. In previous years, NaNoWriMo wasn’t too bad. I had plenty of time to write and few distractions. It helped that I could even write at one of my jobs. Now, time is a lot more difficult to come by. My job doesn’t…
